The F9 large, vertical machining center is designed to provide the power, speed, precision and versatility to attack both large production part applications as well as big die and mold components. The F9 is designed to provide stiffness and rigidity for chatter-free, heavy cutting, roughing and finishing on the same machine, agility for high-speed / hard-milling and accuracies for tight-tolerance blends and matches typical of complex, 3-D contoured geometry associated with die/mold and medical production. The unique machine design provides unparalleled access to ease setup and changeover reducing WIP and overall lead-time.
Equipped with a 50 horsepower, 10,000 RPM, CAT #50 (or an optional HSK – A100) spindle and a large workzone and heavy payload capacity, the F9 can be productive in virtually any segment of the large VMC market. Standardly equipped with scale feedback and core – cooled ballscrews, the machine controls thermal growth achieving greater accuracy for longer term production performance. With a 30 tool magazine, there is sufficient tooling capacity to support a wide variety of large part manufacturing.
The F9 is outfitted with the Makino Professional 5 control utilizing a Windows CE operating system to provide a stable, secure platform with reliable performance on the NC side while providing an operator-friendly graphical user interface (GUI). This latest-generation machine tool control offers large color touch-sensitive, on-screen, menu-driven applications. Icons provide “hot links” and quick access to critical information that may be required by the operator. In addition, the new control platform provides all of the functions typical of a PC (cut, paste, copy, find, replace, etc.) that are rarely available on a machine tool control.
For Die and Mold applications, the machine can be configured a 20,000 RPM, HSK – A63 spindle, advanced data management technology – for handling data intensive applications and Makino’s proprietary, next generation Super Geometric Intelligence (SGI.4) servo control to deliver the lowest cycle times achievable by reducing machining cycle times on dies, complex cavities and cores by as much as 40 percent when compared to most other control technologies.
