Makino’s new T2 five-axis horizontal machining center dramatically increases titanium milling efficiency, combining lean manufacturing methods and increased metal removal rates for today’s aerospace applications. It is specifically designed for the production of large titanium and titanium alloy aerospace parts such as edge frames, pylons and bulkheads. The T2 includes several key elements for efficient titanium machining, including an Active Dampening System, rigid construction for enhanced performance, a high torque, high powered spindle, and a high pressure, high flow coolant system for increased speed and productivity.
Makino’s new T2: purpose-built for highly efficient titanium machining
Makino’s new T2 5-axis horizontal machining center dramatically increases titanium milling efficiency, metal-removal rates and tool life. Purpose-built to produce mid-sized titanium aerospace parts, the T2 features ADVANTiGE™, the industry’s most effective system for addressing the real issues of machining titanium. It provides the rigidity, dynamic stiffness, vibration damping and agility necessary for more productive titanium machining and longer tool life.
Full 5 axis and 6 axis agility
The A- and optional C-axes increase part accessibility with a ±110-degree A-axis and a 360-degree continuous C-axis rotation. The standard NC rotary table B-axis enables full 5-axis cutting and, with the C-axis option, 6-axis operations. The A/C-type configuration provides for exceptional tool reach throughout the entire work zone. The maximum workpiece size is 74.8″ by 78.7″ (1900mm by 2000mm). With a maximum tool length of 23.6″ (600mm), the T2 can dramatically reduce setups and improve throughput and productivity.
Rigid, high-power spindle
The T2’s 4,000 rpm HSK-A125 spindle is Makino’s most powerful, delivering 1,100 ft. lbs. of torque, and higher horsepower and clamping force than all predecessors. Its compact design combines the latest induction motor with twin-inverter-drive technology for higher torque. The spindle is supported by roller bearings to ensure high rigidity, which keeps energy loss to one-half that of conventional gear-driven spindles.
Unattended machining capabilities
The T2 includes an automatic pallet changer system to eliminate costly downtime for part changeovers. The machine can be integrated with a highly flexible Makino Machining Complex (MMC) for extended periods of unattended operation. This automated system assigns work and initiates operations automatically, maximizing spindle utilization for increased productivity.
